| The F.15 series has been designed by Dott.Ing. Stelio Frati, beginning with the prototype Picchio (Woodpecker), which was a three seat light aircraft first flown 7 May 1959. A small production batch was completed by the Milan based company Progetti e Costruzioni Aeronautiche "Procaer". Production totalled 39 aircraft in six versions.
The last version developed was the F.15F Delfino (Dolphin). The F.15F retained the all-metal airframe of the F.15E, but for the training role it required less power and a new one piece rearward sliding canopy to cover the two seat cockpit. The F.15F was first flown 20 October 1977. Intended to meet the need for a low cost basic military trainer. The aircraft did not receive orders and the project was stopped.

The Procaer F.15F Delfino prototype, I-PROL, first flew in October 1977 and in the early 1990s HOAC in Austria revived the design with a new prototype, named Excalibur, OE-VPY, being shown at the Paris Air Show in 1995.
Another F.15F was registered I-EXCA. HOAC abandoned the project, but Sokol in Niznij Novgorod had already built a number of airframes.
Reports suggest about 30 airframes were completed. A small batch is said to have been sold to China.

Programme
Developed from and slightly larger and heavier than Procaer/General Avia F.15 Picchio and Delfino designed by Dott Ing Stelio Frati (see Procaer in Italian section of Jane's All the World's Aircraft 1983-84). The programme was launched in June 1991; construction of preproduction aircraft started December 1991; production aircraft construction began June 1993. Preproduction aircraft (OE-VPY) first flew October 1994 and was due to be certified by RAI in accordance with FAR Pt 23 in February 1996, with first deliveries scheduled for March 1996. By the end of 1995, five further examples were in final assembly, 30 airframes were completed and 70 more were in various stages of production. The F-15-F 300 was expected to make its first flight by May 1996, with deliveries beginning third quarter of that year. However only one aircraft (I-EXCA; second built) was registered in 1996; no further information received subsequently. Production of the F-15-F by Sokol in Russia was terminated at an early stage.

Little is know about this aircraft.

The aircraft at Sun 'n Fun 2001, at Lakeland, was the third Sokol aircraft and a further 17 airframes are being shipped to the USA for sale to private owners who want to complete them.
To my knowledge only two airframes apppear to be in the USA.
Please send me an email if you know about more F.15F airframes in the USA or any where else in the world.
Available for sale at the show was the airframe of a Frati F.15F fitted with an Alison 250 turboprop.
This aircraft was completed with a piston engine and was registered N24VK, see below.

Pictures of two Sokol F15F aircraft are shown below, but where are the others.
I am looking for the location of those imported into the USA.
What are their designations ?
And what is left behind at the Sokol factory ?
Does someone know ?
Please let me know, About 30 airframes are said to be completed before the project was cancelled.

F.15 Picchio. Procaer built an initial series of 15 aircraft. The prototype first flew on May 7, 1959. A fully aerobatic aircraft with control sticks and gull-wing entry doors. Wood construction with a sheet of aluminum bonded to the outer surface giving extremely smooth finish and excellent performance. All-metal control surfaces.
F.15 prototype with 3 seats and a 160 hp engine.
